Visa and Consular Services
VISAS OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA
Any foreign national who enters territory of Indonesia is required to
possess a valid Travel Document and the Entry Permit or Visa. Some
foreign nationals do not need to apply for a visa, they are those who
are permitted to use Visa Free for Short Visit Facility. All other
foreign nationals are required to possess a Visa.
Visas are issued to those persons who are visiting Indonesia on
government work, on business, social-cultural activities and holiday
purposes. Those visas are categorized into:
Visa is granted only for the purpose of conducting official government
work (Diplomatic/Service), business, social-cultural or leisure
(holiday/tourist). Visa is valid if presented within 3
(three) months from the date of issuance, and can be used for a maximum
length of stay of 60 (sixty) days.
The Government, Business and Social-Cultural visas could be extended in
Indonesia. The Directorate General of Immigration will consider and
granting the extension of the Business and Social-Cultural Visas, while
an extension of the Diplomatic and Service Visa will be granted by the
Directorate for Consular Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
For a certain purpose those visas could be converted into Temporary Stay
Visa.
A. Government (Diplomatic Visa/Service Visa)
Service Visa is
given to foreign nationals bearing an official/service passport, on
assignment to Indonesia for non-diplomatic purposes. Requests for a
Service Visa must be submitted through an Indonesian Diplomatic Mission
abroad, by fulfilling the requirements. It takes at least 3 (three)
working days to process a single entry visa. For a certain assignment,
visa will be issued after obtaining the necessary approval.
B. Business Visa
A single entry
business visa is valid if presented within 3 (three) months from the
date of issuance. It can be extended in Indonesia and can be converted
into Temporary Stay Visa. Holders of certain types of business visa may
be able to work in Indonesia if they possess a working permit from the
relevant institutions in Indonesia. Several other types are strictly
classified as 'business not to work', including Journalist Visa.
C. Social-Cultural Visa
A single entry
Social-Culture Visa is valid if presented within 3 (three) months from
the date of issuance. It will be granted to conduct socio-culture
activities (family gathering, education, sport, etc.) A Social Culture
Visa could be extended in Indonesia and could be converted into a
Temporary Stay Visa.
D. Tourist Visa
A single entry tourist visa is valid if presented within
3 (three)
months from the date of issuance. It is given to persons who intend to
have a holiday/leisure purposes in Indonesia other than the exempted
foreign nationals (Free Visa for Short Visit). This type of visa will
also be granted to persons who are employed in the tourism area (to
arrange and accompany a tourist group, to promote tourism in Indonesia,
etc). Tourist visa is not a working visa and cannot be converted into
any other type of visa.
E. Multiple Entry Business Visa
Multiple entry visa is valid for several entries into Indonesia and is
only available for business purposes for a maximum period of 1 (one)
years. Each visit may not be for more than 60 (sixty) days. Multiple
entry visa is not a working visa and cannot be extended.
F. Temporary Stay Visa
Temporary Stay
Visa is good for a single entry if presented within 3 (three) months
from the date of issuance and is valid for a maximum stay of 1 (one)
year). It is granted upon the authorization of the Directorate General
of Immigration in Jakarta. To expedite the authorization, it is
advisable to have the sponsor in Indonesia submit also the application
directly to the Directorate General of Immigration in Jakarta. VITAS can
be extended in Indonesia.
G. Transit Visa
A Transit Visa can be obtained from the Indonesian Representatives in
Tanzania or at an Immigration
Check Point at designated Entry points at the Airports/Sea ports and
Land Border (Transit Visa on Arrival) by paying all dues according to
the regulations. This visa is given to persons of foreign origin who
wish to make a short stop over in Indonesian territory and are on an
onward journey to another country, to their country of origin, to join
or work on a transport vehicle that will continue its journey outside
Indonesian territory. Passenger could obtain Transit Visa On Arrival,
which is valid for stopovers within Indonesian territory due to
emergencies affecting transport vehicles and other legitimate causes,
resulting in a delay in that journey and verified by the proper
authorities.
H. Visa On Arrival
Visa On Arrival
is valid for a maximum stay of 30 (thirty) days
Please be advised that the decision to grant permission to enter
Indonesian territory is at the discretion of the Immigration Officers at
the Port of Entry.
